Today, we’re thrilled to congratulate Barb and Brooks Fetters — co-owners of The Purviance House Bed & Breakfast — on being joint recipients of the 2025 Hoosier Hospitality Award, presented on November 10 in Indianapolis.
As highlighted by Visit Indiana, the Purviance House was honored as one of just 12 statewide recipients of this prestigious award. The recognition celebrates Hoosiers who go above and beyond to create memorable guest experiences — something Brooks and Barb have been doing for years with warmth, generosity, and unmistakable Huntington charm.
Many know Brooks as the founder of the Huntington Bicycle Shop, but he and Barb share another passion: acting as Huntington’s unofficial “community concierges.” Whether they’re introducing guests to their favorite local restaurants, showcasing neighborhood businesses, recommending scenic routes and historic sites, or simply sharing stories of the people who make this county special, their joy comes from connecting visitors to the heart of Huntington.
The Huntington County Visitor and Convention Bureau recently captured this spirit beautifully. In one unforgettable example, two out-of-state brothers staying at the Purviance House discovered — through conversations with the Fetters — that they still had family living nearby. Brooks and Barb immediately reached out to the relatives and even opened their breakfast room for an impromptu family reunion. It’s the perfect picture of Hoosier Hospitality: thoughtful, heartfelt, and rooted in genuine care for others.
Guests rave about the experience of staying with them. As one recent visitor shared:
“The absolute stars of this B&B have to be the amazing couple that runs the house! Barb and Brooks were the ultimate hosts — warm, charming, personable, knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. Having breakfast in the fabulous dining room was the best part of every day. Barb is a fantastic cook!!! When she offers you sour cream coffee cake, say ‘Yes!’”
